PreSchool

Basic movements taught by a certified Professional Skate Canada Coach. All Skaters must wear a helmet while on the ice.


CanSkate

CanSkate is Skate Canada's learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages that focus on fun, participation and basic skill development.  Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach with the assistance of trained Program Assistants. The coach to student ratio is a maximum of 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate.

When you/your child registers for a CanSkate program you also become a member of Skate Canada, the national sport governing body for figure skating in Canada. Membership benefits in the CanSkate program can include badges, stickers, report cards, special CanSkate events, opportunity to be talent-scouted, and the opportunity to participate in a positive healthy lifestyle activity!

The CanSkate program focuses on the development of fundamental movements organized in six stages of learning with skills arranged in progressions.  Once the skills on each stage are mastered, a badge is awarded..

Stage 1 - Balance
Stage 2 - Glide forward
Stage 3 - Glide backward
Stage 4 - Edges
Stage 5 - Power
Stage 6 - Speed
Stage 7 - Pre-prelim     

This is the flagship "Learn to Skate" program offered by Skate Canada. CanSkate teaches the basic fundamentals of skating in a fun and exciting group environment.  It is taught by Skate Canada Professional Coaches with assistance from program assistants.

All Skaters are rewarded with badges and regular incentives.

It is recommended that CanSkaters wear CSA approved helmets for their lessons. Layered clothing works best and gloves or mitts are necessary.  

Price includes all ice, coaching and administrative fees.  
(Dakota registration - payable to Dakota Community Centre.


Rising Stars

Welcome to the Next Step - Congratulations skaters!  You are now on your way to being the well skilled skater you have worked so hard to be.   

Known as the bridging program for CanSkaters into the StarSkate program.  CanSkaters that have achieved at least stage 4 CanSkate and have an interest in learning more figure skating specific skills are welcomed to move into this program!

Once moving into Rising Stars, skaters will progress much faster and have the extra time to perfect all the new skills that will be taught in both the group and private lessons.  More ice times are always available if a skater would like to increase their time on the ice.


 STARSkate

Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition! This program offers opportunities for skaters to develop skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, freeskate, and interpretive. Figure skating skills are taught in a small group and/or private lesson format.  Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system.

You also have access to:

Special STARSkate events and club functions, the opportunity to be talent-scouted, and the opportunity for personal growth and the development of important life skills such as goal-setting, self-discipline, confidence, time management, healthy lifestyle and coping strategies to deal with success and failure.

CompetitiveSkate

The Competitive Test Program is a testing program for skaters in singles, pairs and dance wishing to compete in qualifying events within Skate Canada. Skaters take tests specific to the discipline (Singles, Pairs and Dance) in which they wish to compete. Skaters enrolled in Competitive Skate learn a variety of life skills as they progress up the competitive ladder.  They also have the opportunity to access to provincial and national funding programs, the opportunity to be selected to Skate Canada's National Team, Junior National Team, or Synchronized Skating National Team, and the opportunity and potential to be selected to represent Canada internationally at one of more than 30 competitions each year .

Junior/Intermediate/Senior -Test and Competitive Programs

Skate Winnipeg's Test and Competitive Program is fun and challenging for athletes seeking to improve their skating skills.  There are opportunities throughout the year to participate in test days and competitive events.

Skate Canada Professional Coaches of your choice provide lessons.  Lessons range from $6 -$9 per 15 minutes.  

The price for this session includes ice costs only.  Please book the coach of your choice before you book your fall and winter sessions.


CanPower

CanPowerSkate and pre-power is the only nationally regulated power skating program in Canada. It was developed by a team of hockey, figure skating and ringette experts to teach the fundamentals of power skating in a progressive and sequential manner. These include balance skills, forward and backward skating, stopping, turning and agility skills.

Pre-Can Power first step into the Power skating methods used for Hockey and Ringette. The skaters will fine tune their basic skating and on into accuracy with body alignment and proper skating technique to create power.  Skaters should be able to skate forward and backwards before enrolling in this class.


 Adult Skate

Feel the freedom of really gliding along and feeling the wind against your face.  Learn the basics of skating and feeling proud to skate with your children or your spouse on those skating sessions that you had always wished you could join in on OR come back to skating and enjoying what you were doing in your youth! Adult skating is growing in popularity and more and more clubs are offering recreational, test and competitive opportunities to this segment of the population.

Adults wishing to improve their fitness level and their skating skills.  

This program includes 1 hour of coaching instruction with a Skate Canada Professional Coach in all the areas of skating.
